Music is a combination of short tones and long tones.
In music, NOTES are used to distinguish how short or long a tone is played (heard).
Below is a glimpse of a few notes.
NOTES tell us what pitch (sound) to play and how long to allow that pitch to continue to be heard (sustained).
NOTES are grouped into what are called MEASURES.
Each measure has a set tempo specified by a Time Signature
Every MEASURE is an organized group of notes, which we call a PATTERN.
BAR LINES are used to separate each measure (pattern).
These groups of notes which we call PATTERNS are the creation blocks for what we affectionately call RHYTHM.
That is a lot, but it will make perfect sense as we move on.
